Pores: The Good and the Bad

Pores: we all have them. To the lucky ones, they are of no consequence. To others, they are the evil that prevents a satiny-smooth complexion. Enlarged pores cause the face to look dull and aged, so many women turn to skincare products and natural remedies to try and shrink unsightly large pores.

There’s good news and bad news here. The bad news is, you can’t actually shrink large pores. The good news is, you can make them appear smaller. We know, we know. That’s not exactly what you were hoping to hear, but buck up! Those crater-sized pores will haunt you no more!

In order to make pores appear smaller than they actually are, it’s important to decrease the amount of plumpness between the pores. You can de-plumb the surrounding skin with skincare products designed especially for the job.

Products That Redefine Pores

Clay Masks

Clay masks draw oil and water out of skin making pores look finer and smaller. Skin is left with a feeling drier and tighter with a smoother, refined texture. The downside of using clay masks is they can over dry or irritate skin if used too often. It is recommended that you only use a clay mask once or twice a week.

Clarisonic Brush Cleansing

The Clarisonic Brush system is a sonic cleansing system that vibrates oil and debris out of pores resulting in a cleaner complexion and smaller pores. Clean pores appear smaller than clogged pores because all the black, oily debris is flushed from the pores. This type of cleansing really gets cleansers deep down into pores where it works best.

Toners and Astringents

Toners and astringents are usually alcohol or acetone based which removes residual oil and dirt from pores and dries surrounding skin for a tighter, more refined complexion. Toners are not for everyone, though, because they can be very drying and irritating to sensitive skin and should only be used by people with very oily skin.

Every face has dead skin cells which can cause a dull complexion and clogged pores. By removing the layer of dead skin cells through exfoliation, you reveal a more radiant, cleaner complexion with pores that appear smaller. Many skincare products contain exfoliating ingredients designed to remove this layer and work well to minimize the appearance of large pores.
